My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was hoping this will be as good as The Girl with All the Gifts, a book I loved very much. On the other hand, knowing how that one ended, I was a bit afraid the author will just rehash the same plot, with a different cast of characters. Fortunately, the post-apocalypse that M.R. Carey has imagined allowed him enough space to play at will, and The Boy on the Bridge did have a whole different trajectory and explored a different focus. And when it finally intersected with the events in the previous book, it was to bring a welcome closure (and a bit of hope) to a very bleak and seemingly hopeless story.
I will not write more here – I’ll wait for the Romanian edition of the book to come out to review it properly – I will just advise you to go and get it and read it, even if you have not read The Girl with All the Gifts. It’s a great, great book.
